Good Core Exercise

The athlete's arms & legs cannot touch the ground.
They do a jack knife, then follow it with a barrel roll to another jack knife & repeat. I'm allowing this athlete to cheat a bit, the elbows should be straight & the feet together.

Joe P,
Top notch stuff. I am in the process of working on a training video for distance runners. It will include our tried and true and some new running workouts as as some general and specific strngth work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Coach Martin- welcome to the blog! I just saw a running "core" video produced by a famous coach & former world record holder. Sometimes I think these guys produce this stuff just to throw the competition off. I am very doutful he uses it on his own athletes. And, there is NOTHING for for high school athlete, only trickled down collegiate programs. Take a look through the archives, it will give you some suggestions. But, you of all people understand it's not the exercises, rather how it all fits together.

Joe,
"rather how it all fits together,"That's exactly why I want to do it. I have been doing a lot of trial and error with our boys over the past few years and they are getting stronger. I want to put some things together in the context of what we do in HS in New Jersey. I sometimes get caught in the dilemma and argument of general v specific. Thats where I need some of your guidance and expertise. I'll start checking the archives. I guess I am looking for a bit of a shortcut.

Joe,

Glad to see you're back in the saddle again.

Had one question about the exercise...What sport does this athlete play and how will this exercise transfer to that sport?
